Psychedelic Ketamine Reduces Default Mode Network (DMN) Connectivity

The "Default Mode Network (DMN) is the brain network associated with autobiographical thinking, mental time travel (ruminating about the past, worries about the future), and self-critical judgements. New research shows that ketamine reduces the functional connectivity of the DMN, which correlates to subjective experiences of feeling safe, calm, and present. And the medicine also increases connectivity with the Salience Network, which is associated with novelty, beauty, awe, and wonder.

It is so amazing that science is starting to discover the neurological basis for the subjective experiences we see every day in the clinic!
